Lucy was born in Derby, raised in Essex and now lives in Ealing, West London.
She originally qualified and worked as a nurse (RGN) before graduating as a trained actor and singer from Webber Douglas Academy of Music & Dramatic Art. Her tutors included Patsy Rodenburg for voice, Julia Smith for TV, and singing tutors have included Penny Harvey-Piper and Elena Ferrari. She then spent nearly 15 years in the professional theatre and appeared in Rep, panto and on TV, film and radio.
She has real interest in, and an excellent ear for accents, and has played many, usually convincing natives of the area. In her first professional acting job – in weekly Rep – she played Scottish, Irish, Cockney, Essex, RP, and New York. More recently she’s added Welsh, Yorkshire, Swedish, West Country & Norfolk to her repertoire, and is always happy to study further.
As many actors and creatives, a range of ‘day jobs’ added to her life experience. Apart from various nursing posts in A&E, SCBU, ITU, a Night Sister at St Mary’s Paddington, and specialised children’s nursing at Great Ormond Street, a variety of other work filled the income gaps.
But the requirement to pay a mortgage led to a complete, and long, break from acting. She took a role in publishing, writing and editing the leading trade magazine for the beauty salon and health spa sector. She was Editor of the magazine (Professional Beauty) for some years, marrying her medical knowledge with holistic health, nutrition and complementary therapies.
Lucy began to coach business groups in voice and presentation skills and created her consultancy: Perfect Pitch UK. This developed more when she was a freelance editor and writer, and she coached a wide variety of clients; from account handlers, lecturers, sales reps, telesales and customer service teams, to receptionists, sixth-formers, and even the Metropolitan Police.
Later, vocal clients moved to acting students and performers, and she is now a regular guest tutor at Questors Theatre in Ealing, which runs various part-time acting courses. She also offers 1-2-1 vocal and audition coaching.
The Questors Theatre also fostered her interest in directing, and she is now one of the main season directors at Questors, when she has time. see Directing CV for more.
Lucy is also developing her script writing skills, and has had a number of shorter scripts performed in New Writing events. She was a finalist in a ‘5Min Theatre Festival’ at Stockwell Playhouse, and two short audio dramas she wrote were chosen to be performed in ‘Lockdown’ projects in 2020. She also won the Chesil Theatre ‘Take Ten’ competition and her play was performed there in February 24.
